Cowocat_Rural: a clearer website for Catalonia’s rural coworking network
A network of rural coworking spaces backed by local action groups across Catalonia and led by the Consorci Intercomarcal d’Iniciatives Socioeconòmiques. ARTIC restructured its website, replaced the booking system and brought the Coworkfest festival in-house.

Starting point
A website that had grown piece by piece
Services
Cowocat_Rural connects rural coworking spaces across Catalonia and offers the Ruralpass, a passport to cowork for free at other spaces in the network. Its website mixed sections that were no longer used, and bookings between spaces relied on a standalone program that was hard to maintain and often failed.
On top of that, the Coworkfest festival lived on a separate subdomain with its own navigation, splitting the brand and search visibility across two websites.
The rethink
From a scattered website to one well-organised network
Bookings
BeforeExternal program, hard to maintain and error-prone
Forms and emails built into the website: request, notice to the space and confirmation
Coworkfest
BeforeStandalone subdomain (coworkfest.cowocatrural.cat)
A section of cowocatrural.cat with 301 redirects
Spaces
BeforeLow-profile directory
A page for each space, flagging those that offer Ruralpass
Homepage
BeforeAccumulated blocks
Project, Ruralpass, spaces, news, testimonials and newsletter
Action plan
Restructuring without losing the identity
- 1
Redesign and new homepage
Keeping the identity and content, a new layout for the homepage and the space pages, with revised typography, colours and hierarchy (WordPress web design).
- 2
Bookings without external software
Users request a space and a date on the website; the space gets an email with the request, the user gets an acknowledgement, and the space manager confirms or declines by replying to the email.
- 3
Coworkfest inside the website
A festival page with the current edition, tabs for the festival, programme and past editions, impact counters, news and the participating spaces linked to their pages.
- 4
SEO and migration
301 redirects from the subdomain, titles, meta descriptions, URLs, Open Graph and structured data with breadcrumbs (on-page SEO).

Results
A network that is easier to run and to discover
Bookings between spaces no longer depend on external software: they are handled through the website and email, a simpler system for the spaces with fewer errors.
Coworkfest now adds its authority to the main domain. Its fifth edition, from 29 May to 7 June 2026, brought together more than 400 people at 16 spaces, with 32 scheduled activities.

What did ARTIC do for Cowocat_Rural?
It restructured and redesigned the website, replaced the booking program with forms and emails, moved Coworkfest onto the main domain and handled on-page SEO.
Why replace a booking program with forms?
Because the program kept failing and had to be maintained separately. With forms and emails, spaces manage bookings from their inbox and there is no external software to maintain.
Do you lose rankings when a subdomain becomes a section?
Not if every old URL is 301-redirected to the new one, as with Coworkfest. On the contrary: authority is concentrated on one domain.
Does ARTIC work with public bodies and cooperation projects?
Yes: consortia, LEADER projects and EU projects, with websites that have to serve many stakeholders at once.
